Comet Campers Rental Terms

Important information about your rental

On arrival you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the operators of Comet Campers. Here is a summary of the terms and conditions:

Definitions
The following definitions apply for the Terms and Conditions for Comet Campers.

-  The Supplier means the operator of Comet Campers
-  The Client is also referred to as the hirer (s)

Rental Charges
When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick up time. The day of the vehicles return is counted as the final day of the rental. When a rental moves from one rate season to the next, the calculation is based on both rates.

Protection packages available
You have a choice of Basic or CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) or MPP (Maximum Protection Package).

Reduces liability in the event of an accident to $2,000.00. Does not cover overhead damage, windscreen, tyres or under body damage. Maximum premium payable per rental: $1,250.00

MPP (Maximum Protection Package)
Reduces liability in the event of an accident to $450.00. Does not cover overhead damage or under body damage. Includes 1 windscreen & 2 tyres replacement. Maximum premium payable per rental: $1,800.00

The excess applies to each claim, not per rental.
The above Excess Reduction Options apply to drivers aged 25 – 75 years of age.


An additional age excess of $1000.00 applies to drivers aged 21-24 years. Drivers aged 21-24 years old are not eligible for MPP cover under the terms & conditions of our insurance policy.

All Damage Cover is forfeited if:

    * the terms and conditions of the rental contract are breached. The hirer is then responsible for the total costs of any damage.
    * the vehicle is submersed in or damaged by water or salt water
    * driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and on restricted roads
    * willful damage such as standing or sitting on the vehicle's roof or bonnet is strictly prohibited and is at the hirers cost.
    * the hirer is responsible for any recovery costs that may occur if the vehicle becomes bogged or stranded caused by driver error regardless of the insurance excess / level of cover.

Additional Cost
Government Stamp Duty: Included in the daily rental rate.
GST: Included in the daily rental rate.

One - Way Rentals:
One Way Fee applies to one way rentals
- Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane Adelaide & Cairns = AU$195
-Any one way rental involving Perth = AU$495
- Any one way rental involving Darwin = AU$600
ie. One Way Perth to Sydney would have a one way fee of AU$495
Please note:  There is a 20+ days minimum hire required for Darwin rentals.

Rental Duration & Kilometres
Minimum rental for all vehicles is 7 days. A14 day minimum rental  period applies during the period of 27 September – 12 October and 16 December – 15 January

Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns, Darwin and Perth.
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.00pm
Weekends, Public Holidays by prior arrangement only.

Licence minimum/maximum age
A valid Driver's Licence from your Country of Origin or Residence, or an International Licence is acceptable. The minimum age is 25 years. The maximum age is 75 years. Arrangements can be made for drivers aged between 21 and 24 and drivers over 75 under special circumstances, subject to additional insurance charges.

Cancellation
The deposit is non refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges apply:

An AU$75.00 cancellation administration fee will apply to all cancellations.
Cancellation 33 days + prior to pick-up date - no further charges
Cancellation 11 to 33 days prior to pick-up date - AU$500
Cancellation less than 11 days prior to pick-up date - 50% of Gross Rental
No-show - 100% of Gross Rental
There is no refund for late pick up or early return of vehicle.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of Travel Insurance. In many cases this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking

Change of drop off destination
Authorization must be obtained if a change of drop-off destination is required. AAM cannot guarantee that any such authorization will be granted. If authorization is granted, a fee of up to AU$800 may apply.

Insurance
Insurance is a mandatory charge that provides comprehensive cover.

Both CDW Protection Package and (MPP) Maximum Protection Package DO NOT COVER any type of water damage, ie: vehicle immersion or salt water damage.

The Supplier reserves the right to restrict vehicle movements and insurance level availability in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

Bond deposit
A deposit is required for all vehicles at time of pick up. On return of the vehicle, provided no accident or damage has occurred, the vehicle is completely clean with fuel and gas tanks full, then the deposit will be returned to the renter. Payments made via credit card.

Minimum hire/one way hire
Minimum rental is 7 days. Minimum one way rentals are 14 days. NB: One way rentals are subject to a one way fee.

Change of vehicle
We reserve the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle at no extra cost in extreme circumstances. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to any refund whatsoever.

Cleaning fee
A cleaning fee of AU$120 will be charged if the vehicle is not returned in reasonable condition. Charging of such fee will be at the depot managers discretion. The vehicle must be returned with the toilet emptied, otherwise a cleaning fee of AU$100.00 will be charged.

Refunds
There are no refunds for vehicles returned earlier than the agreed term on the rental contract.

Destination/road restrictions
Vehicles may be driven in all states; however, restrictions apply depending on road types and standards. All vehicles can only be driven on recognised roads, ie roads shown on maps.

Campervans and motorhomes are restricted to bitumen roads only.

All insurance and refundable money is waived if the above restrictions are breached. Any damage and/or recovery costs are the customers responsibility.

Repairs
All repairs / tyre replacements must be authorised by the Supplier prior to any repair work proceeding. The Supplier will reimburse you for expenses incurred in rectifying any authorised problems on presentation of the relevant receipts. NB: Defective parts or damaged tyres must be returned to our office for inspection. We will not accept responsibility for hotel or motel charges, meals or out of pocket expenses in the case of breakdown, liability will be limited to the refund of hire charges for any days lost.

Service
All vehicles are covered by a national emergency roadside breakdown service.

Traffic infringements
We reserve the right to charge the renter for any speeding or parking fines and/or accidents not reported on return of the vehicle. (AU$55 admin fee will apply per fine.)

Rental payments
All rental charges and security bonds must be paid in full prior to or on the day of the commencement of the rental. All payments to the Supplier must be made in Australian Dollars only. Please note that payment can only be made by Visa, Mastercard or Australian Bankcard (no other credit cards or EFTPOS are accepted). Personal or business cheques, cash, travellers cheques or bank cheques can only be excepted if received 14 days prior to the commencement of the rental.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your credit card has sufficient funds and/or daily transaction limit. No vehicle will be released under any circumstances until the rental payment and Security Bond is paid in full.

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.

Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
